Greening of gray buildings – M. Kraaij
This paper is about the growing vacancy on the Dutch office market and to what extent offices are suitable for getting successfully back on the office market through green renovation. This paper describes the results of literature research into vacancy, causes of vacancy, preferences of office users and the quality aspects of offices. Besides that, literature research is done into the possibilities of sustainable technology. This paper describes furthermore the results of the research for technical and financial feasibility that is done for three case studies in Eindhoven. The results of this research show that – provided a good quality location and considering the current office market and technical aspects – sustainability could be a solution for vacant offices. Further research could be done into the financial infeasibility of the operation and the role that municipalities and building owners should play.
